Gout treatments should be started as soon as possible.
Treatment focuses on reducing the production of uric acid (using allopurinol ) and also preventing the long-term complications , such as joint destruction, renal failure, or heart disease
Allopurinol may also be used to shrink the tophi until they disappear. Surgery is sometime used to remove large tophi that are causing deformity.
