2 Stage : Acute gout stage Gout attack treatment

 

Rest the affected joint

Take non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or colchicine to inhibit acute inflammatory responses

Steroid drugs may be used if NSAIDs or colchicine fails to control an acute gout attack.

Steroids may be taken by mouth or by injection directly into the affected joint.

A joint aspiration ( arthrocentesis ) may be performed to relieve pressure and pain of the badly swollen knee or ankle joint

Antiinflammatory drugs begin working within 24 hours.

In general, a high dose of antiinflammatory drugs is a dministered for acute attack. Dosage may be reduced after relief occurs.
