Hippocrates called gout in the foot as “ podagra ”, from the Greek words pous (foot) and agra (attack).

Written records of gout were found in the Korean traditional medical book Donguibogam .
  Gout affected many famous historical figures.
Alexander the Great, Queen Anne, King Henry VII, King Henry VIII, Benjamin Franklin, John Milton, Isaac Newton, and Charles Darwin have known to suffer from gout.
